Hotel facilites and rooms



Hotel facilites include:

                                      - room service
                                      - internet access
                                      - air conditioning
                                      - parking
                                      - single room
                                      - double room
                                      - twin room (2 beds)
                                      - satelite TV
                                      - minibar
                                      - personal safe

Rooms are often avaliable (can find) during the week.


Many hotels are fully booked (all the room are take) at weekend.



In the holiday you may need to book a room in advance.



In reception:

                      - arrive: check in
                      - end: check out


If you go to restaurant it´s a good idea book a table/make a reservation.

Three course meals: 
                        strated (e.g. soup)
                        main course (e.g. meat or fish)
                        dessert (e.g. fruit or ice cream)

You must pay the price and to leave a trip (extra money).

Air travel



Vocabulary


When you arrive at an airport, the departure board will show you the flight numbers (e.g, BA333), departure time (e.g. 08.30) and destination.

My flight number is BA 5544.

You paid excess bagage.

Aircraft: plane.

Aboarding card: a piece of paper you must show to get on the plane.


In the pass-control someone checks you passport.

The aircraft take-off (leaves the ground).



When you broad the plane you can put your hand luggage in a small cupboard. It call overhead loker.

You then have to fasten your seat belt.

If there are no delays, the plane moves slowly to the runway, then it take off.



When the plane lands (arrives), there is always an announcement form member of the cabin crew.

You must get off the plane and walk througt the terminal building to baggage reclaim.

Go throught customs: pasar por encargo.

Medicine to become a doctor.

Qualification: something that you get when you are succesful in a exam.

To enter in University:

- First you have get grades in you final school exam to get place at many universities.
- You can then study for / do a degree.
- If you get complete course succesful you recive a certificant.

The most senior lectures have tittle Professor.

Four years in university: undergraduates.
Degree complete: graduates.
Master: postgraduate degree.

School system



1. Nursery school.

4. Take/do GCSE exam: college for vocational training (job) or stay at school two more years.
5. If pupils take level exam "A" they can go on to university (college for further education/training).

School rules in the past

- To call the male teacher "sir" and female teacher "miss".
- To wear a horrible uniform.
- Pupils sometimes had to stay behind and write an essay (e.g. poems).

If you broke the ruler (get into trouble) you were punished.

Nowdays, the atmosphere is more relaxed. Pupils can often dress the way they want -reasonably smart (well dressed)-and the techers are not as strict.

War and violence

The soldiers are carrying guns

They are members of an army

Soldiers defend their country and attack to protect the people.

They have to fight the enemy.

During a war there are a numbers of battles.

When a bomb exploded in the heart of the city many building are destroyed.

Now searching in the area where the attack took place.

Soldier was shotting, someone is missing and others died.






Climate change


Vocabulary



The greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane and ozone) create the greenhouse effect

The use of fossil fuels e.g. oil, natural gas and coal, has produced excesive amount of greenhouse gases and the result is global warning.

The effects of climate change: summers are getting hotter and winners are getting wetter, so drought (a long time without rain) and floods (much run) are becoming more common. 

Animals and plants life is suffering.

To stop global warning form destroying our environment, we need to act.

Six ways to reduce global warning

1. Don´t throw things away: recicle.

2. Save energy e.g. switch off lights.

3. Drive less and walk more.

4. Don´t waste water e.g. turn off the tap when you are brushing you teeth.

5. Change light bulbs for more energy-efficient ones.

6. Plant tree because trees reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and so reduce greenhouse gasses.
